Marine and ShipbuildingVarious fluids flowing through thousands of meters of pipework, pipes that just cannot be opened and measuring points that are out of reach. These circumstance make it extremely difficult to perform permanent or point measurements with conventional measurement systems on commercial and military ships.

In the early 1980’s engineers realised that there was a need for a portable tool to determine the flow rates of water, cooling liquids and fuels around the various on-board systems during the later stages of commissioning. For this reason several institutions started working on the prototypes of the early generation of clamp-on flowmeters. Since then the technology has improved dramatically.

Several of our ultrasonic flowmeter devices allow readings to be taken simultaneously, reducing cost and also allowing supply and return or differential flow measurements on fuel systems.

Our clamp-on sensors are installed on the outside of the pipe. Therefore there is no pressure loss, no risk of leakage and no interruption of the flow process.

The KATflow 150 is one of our ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters for fixed installations. This instrument is used by commercial cargo boats to monitor diesel and oil consumption.

Our compact and lightweight KATflow 200 ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeter is used on both commercial ships and naval vessels, including submarines. This portable flowmeter has become a valuable measuring instrument for maintenance work on fuel, oil, water, cooling and heating pipes. In addition, the KATflow 200 plays an important role in the testing of fire extinguishing systems.
